First Aid for Mental Health
The First Aid for Mental Health (Level 2) course provides learners with a more in-depth understanding of mental health conditions and how to support others both in and outside the workplace. Delivered over a minimum of 6 hours within a 3-week period, this course covers key topics such as recognising a range of mental health conditions, managing stress, understanding the impact of drugs and alcohol, and learning how to implement a First Aid for Mental Health action plan. It also explores how mental health first aid can be effectively integrated into the workplace, making it ideal for those taking on a more proactive support role.
Open to learners aged 14 and over, the course allows a maximum of 16 participants per session. Assessment is carried out through a mix of practical demonstrations and written questioning, including both open and multiple-choice formats. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health, which is valid for three years. While not mandatory, refresher training is strongly recommended to ensure continued confidence and competence in providing mental health support.
